General Information

Overview

The Faculty of Economics of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) was established in 1948. On 1 January, 1987 it merged with the Faculty of Actuarial Science and Econometrics to form the Faculty of Economics and Econometrics. In 2000, the faculty started with a new discipline: Business Administration. That is why the name has changed to Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, commonly referred to as FEWEB.

The FEWEB is a medium-sized faculty, with approximately 2850 students and about 400 academic and non-academic members of staff. We are large enough to provide high-quality education, but not so large that one loses sight of the human dimension.

The solid structure of the course organization gives students a clear picture. Lectures alternate with seminars and tutorials in small groups.

Students wishing to study at the faculty for a short period (usually one semester or one year) can follow a wide range of courses taught in English. In an attempt to meet the growing demand, the number of courses offered in English has steadily increased over the past few years. Regular Dutch students are also allowed to follow these English courses. Please note that the information on our website is always kept up-to-date. See: www.feweb.vu.nl > English > Exchange programs. Additionally, students are allowed to choose courses taught at other faculties, as long as they meet the entry requirements and only when there are places available.
